Around the corner from Lord & Taylor’s, 3 blocks from Bryant Park, 4 blocks from Herald Square - what could this heavenly place be? In its first calendar year shows in the space garnered 8 NY Innovative Theater award nominations! How innovative can YOU be?
Our new home space, (AEA approved) located at 38 West 38th St in Manhattan is an entire floor with a large theater seating 40-60, storage area, a small build space on the roof, 1 dressing room area for up to 12, 2 restrooms (one which is fully accessible*), elevator access - and a flexible layout for your show (with 3 week or longer rentals)- your show can have seating lengthwise, proscenium seating, seating on two sides - whatever you like - and only $2,200 per week and $260 a night 6-10. Day rentals go by the hour and are $25 (a scrim can be added to your rental for an extra $200 per week). Available dates for rent in 2009 are variable (however days are usually free for rehearsals at $20 an hour (for the entire floor!) and we may have cancellations, so please email for availability). We are pre-reserving for 2011 as well.
*We are wheelchair accessible except for the highly oversized wheelchairs which will not fit in our elevators. Standard and a bit larger will fit just fine, and in restrooms as well. Let us know how we can best serve you!
The lobby is large and will have a space for concessions as well (*note- we do not supply box, tech or design staff for you, but can recommend them for an additional charge). It is NOT a black box, it is a riot of colors and we encourage renters to experiment with colors, ambiance, walls, seating areas - as opposed to just putting up flats! The actual space is 37 x 40 (this includes seating area, but not backstage or lobby.
Available weeks for performance rentals in 2010 are going fast - However they go to first come, first served so email us for information at info@spoontheater.org - DO NOT call. We have too many calls which are vague ‘can i rent? my name is Joe……’! Email first with your requested dates and we’ll respond a.s.a.p. At an average cost of $2300 per week (depending upon rental length) for an entire floor, its a deal that can’t be beat! rentals@spoontheater.org

Be very specific as to what times/days you need when you contact us so we can answer questions quickly. Our space does provide general liability insurance for your audience as part of your rental, but you must provide volunteer accident and medical for your artists if you are doing an AEA showcase.
